What is Cytogam Used For? Cytogam contains antibodies which act against the cytomegalovirus (CMV) thus reducing the incidence of CMV disease in persons undergoing kidney transplants.

How To Use Cytogam
Cytogam is administered by infusion into a vein by a health care professional. The first dose is given within 3 days of the transplant with additional doses at 2 to 4 week intervals.

Cytogam Side Effects
Nausea, backache or flushing may occur during the infusion. Muscle stiffness, pain and tenderness may occur at the site of injection. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience any of these serious side effects: chills, fever, muscle cramps, wheezing, vomiting, dizziness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Cytogam Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: previous illnesses, blood disorders, any allergies (including any drug allergies). Cytogam should be use only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if Cytogam is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Cytogam Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Cytogam Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Missed Cytogam Dose
It is important that each dose be used as scheduled. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor who will help establish a new dose schedule. Do not double-up the dose to catch up.

Cytogam Storage
Begin infusion within 6 hours after reconstitution and complete within 12 hours after reconstitution. Check the expiration date on the label and properly discard of any unused medication after that time.
