What is Inulin Used For? Inulin is used to evaluate/measure kidney function (glomerular filtration rate).
How To Use Inulin
Inulin is given by vein (IV) as directed by your doctor. The dosage depends on your weight and body size (body surface area). Additional fluids may also given by vein (IV) or by mouth to insure that you have good urine flow during this evaluation. Prepare for the test as directed by your doctor. You should be well rested before the test. You may eat a light breakfast before the test but avoid tea, coffee, or sugars (e.g., jelly, jam, fruit juice). Drink water 2 hours before the test, as directed. Consult your doctor for details. Follow all instructions for proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids. After mixing, do not refrigerate the solution. If you have questions regarding the proper use and detailed instructions of Inulin, consult your pharmacist. Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid.
Inulin Side Effects
No side effects are expected to occur. If side effects do occur, notify your doctor promptly.
Inulin Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, including any allergies. Inulin should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whether Inulin is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Inulin Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use.
Inulin Overdose
No reports of overdose have occurred with this product.
Missed Inulin Dose
If the dose is interrupted, contact your doctor immediately to establish new dosing.
Inulin Storage
Store at room temperature below 80 degrees F (27 degrees C), away from light and moisture. Discard any unused liquid.
