What is Zithromax Used For? This dose form of azithromycin is used as a single dose treatment for certain infections, including genital infections.

How To Use Zithromax
Mix the contents of the packet in 2 ounces of water (60ml). Drink this immediately. Add another 2 ounces of water, mix and drink the entire amount. This dose form of azithromycin may be taken with or without food. Do not take antacids and Zithromax at the same time, as antacids may interfere with absorption of azithromycin. Take antacids at least two hours after taking azithromycin.

Zithromax Side Effects
Zithromax may cause stomach upset, loose stools, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps or vaginal irritation. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor promptly. Notify your doctor if you develop: symptoms of jaundice (e.g., dark urine, clay-colored stools, yellowing of eyes or skin). In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Zithromax, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you develop diarrhea while taking Zithromax, notify your doctor. Do not take any nonprescription medications to treat diarrhea without first consulting your doctor. Use of Zithromax for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Zithromax Precautions
Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, any allergies (especially drug allergies), liver disease, kidney disease, stomach problems (e.g., colitis). Zithromax should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Small amounts of drug do appear in breast milk, so consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Zithromax Drug Interactions
Do not take aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids simultaneously with azithromycin. Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medications you are taking including: theophylline, warfarin, astemizole, terfenadine, nelfinavir, digoxin, triazolam, certain cholesterol-lowering drugs (e.g., lovastatin), live vaccines. Zithromax may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Zithromax Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Missed Zithromax Dose
Zithromax is to be used as a onetime dose.

Zithromax Storage
Store between 40 and 86 degrees F (5 - 30 degrees C). Keep away from sun and moisture.
