...winter storm watch now in effect from tuesday afternoon through wednesday afternoon...
the winter storm watch is now in effect from tuesday afternoon through wednesday afternoon.
* location...northern el paso county...teller county...northern fremont county...chaffee county and lake county...including the sawatch and mosquito ranges...the upper arkansas river valley...pikes peak...the rampart range...and the palmer divide.
* cause and timing...a strong early spring storm will move into the central rockies late tuesday. abundant pacific moisture and cold air arriving from the north could result in significant snowfall tuesday afternoon into wednesday.
* snow accumulation...significant snow is expected. preliminary expectations are for 4 to 8 inches along the arkansas river valley and palmer divide...with 8 to 12 inches over the mountains.
* impact...hazardous travel conditions due to slushy...icy and snow covered roads will be possible tuesday night and wednesday.

a winter storm watch is issued when there is the potential for severe winter weather conditions to develop.
