strong late winter storm to affect the area through sunday...
.snow will continue to develop this evening across north central and much of northeast kansas. across the rest of northeast and east central kansas the precipitation will begin as rain then change over to all snow around midnight. for areas south of interstate 35 a rain and snow mix will continue through 3 am before changing over to all snow. heavy snow bands are expected with this system to develop across parts of northeast and east central kansas.

a winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 am cdt sunday.
* timing...rain will begin late this afternoon then change over to snow during the late evening hours. snow...locally heavy at times...will fall from late tonight through sunday morning.
* total snow accumulations...snow accumulations of 6 to 8 inches or greater is expected.
* winds...north winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph will be possible early saturday morning through sunday morning.
* impacts...heavy snow combined with strong winds tonight through sunday morning will reduce visibilities and make for hazardous travel conditions.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
wintry precipitation is forecast to accumulate in the affected areas causing hazardous driving conditions. those with travel plans are advised to choose an alternate route...or should use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.
