strong winter storm continues this weekend...
.a complex late season winter storm will continue to affect the region through sunday. light to moderate snow will continue across areas generally south of an kansas city to kirksville line this evening and into the overnight hours. however warm air aloft will be drawn into the system from the east...transitioning the snow back over to a wintry mix from east to west before daybreak sunday. the winter mix will gradually end from northwest to southeast during the day sunday. total snow amounts generally from 2 to 5 inches across northern missouri...upwards of 6 to 10 inches across southern sections are expected by the time the precipitation transitions away from snow.

a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7 am cdt sunday.
* location...east central kansas...west central into northeast missouri...including the kansas city metro area...chillicothe and kirksville.
* timing...light to moderate snow will continue over the area this evening with the snow diminishing after 11 pm. the snow is expected to end by daybreak.
* snow accumulations...3 to 7 inches of snow with isolated heavier amounts has fallen across the area since yesterday evening. additional snowfall of around 1 inch is likely northwest of interstate 35 with 1 to 3 inches possible southeast of the interstate.
* impacts...as temperatures cool a couple of degrees tonight...the additional snowfall along with some blowing and drifting of the snow...may cause roads to become slick and hazardous...especially on untreated roadways.

a winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving.
