Winter Weather Advisory - Carroll (Missouri) |
strong winter storm to affect the region this weekend...
.a complex late season winter storm will impact the region tonight through sunday afternoon. initially a large area of rain and snow will continue spreading northeast while gradually sinking south tonight. during the transition period from rain to snow...there will be a narrow band of light freezing rain and sleet...causing some minor icing. during the day on saturday...the storm system will intensify over the red river on the oklahoma and texas border...which should cause heavier snow to occur into southeast kansas and southwest missouri...possibly as far north as a kansas city to kirksville line. areas to the north of this line should see only lighter snow or possibly be dry on saturday. as the red river storm system tracks east saturday night and sunday...snow will continue...mainly in areas south of a kansas city to kirksville line...with the heavy snow expected to be across southeast kansas and southern missouri.

a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 pm cdt sunday.
* location...parts of northeast missouri.
* timing...an expanding area of snow over northwest and west central missouri will spread northeast overnight. initially...the precipitation may start off as light rain or possibly a mix of sleet and freezing rain before transitioning to all snow between 2 and 4 am.
* snow accumulations...total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches...with locally greater amounts...will be possible by the time precipitation ends sunday afternoon.
* impacts...roads will likely become slick and hazardous with snow tonight and saturday. initially the roads may be slushy...but as snow amounts increase...the roads may become snow packed during the day on saturday making driving hazardous. in addition...strong north winds will cause areas of blowing snow which will reduce visibilities. motorists should exercise extreme caution when traveling.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving.
