Flood Warning - McKenzie (North Dakota) |
the flood warning continues for the following rivers in north dakota.. missouri river near williston affecting williams and mckenzie counties for the missouri river basin including williston...minor flooding is occurring and is expected to continue.
. the missouri river near williston continues to be strongly affected by backwater from lake sakakawea. at this point...the elevation of the water surface near garrison dam is still roughly equal to the water surface at williston. gage data shows the stage at williston fluctuates by almost a foot due to wind action on lake sakakawea. this will continue for the next several days even though increased releases from garrison dam will begin to slowly lower the lake. this backwater effect will start to lessen towards the end of this week and by this time next week the lake should be low enough to allow for the cancellation of this flood warning.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
safety message...do not drive into areas where water tops the roadway. turn around...don`t drown. avoid driving on flooded roads.
a follow-up product will be issued.
