flood watch for ice jams on the little missouri river...
.law enforcement officials report an ice flow has moved north on
the little missouri river into extreme southwest billings county
early saturday morning...and the river downstream remains ice
covered. increasing river flow and flowing ice will continue north
towards medora. as a result...ice will likely breakup within the
river channel. this ice may form an ice jam at constrictions in
the river...such as bends or near bridges. it is possible the
little missouri river may temporarily flow out of its banks should
a jam occur. if you spot an ice jam notify law enforcement for
relay to the national weather service.

the flood watch continues for
* a portion of southwest north dakota...including the following
counties...billings...bowman...golden valley and slope.
* through sunday evening.
* increasing...ice affected flows have been observed along the
little missouri river in southwest north dakota near
marmarth...and into far southwest billings county.
* ice affected flow may from ice jams at constrictions in the
little missouri river...such as bends in the river or at
bridges...causing the river to temporarily flow out of its
bank.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
you should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
