...winter storm will move across southern mexico and west texas this afternoon and tonight...
an upper level low pressure system with a cold front will move across southern new mexico and western texas late this afternoon through tonight. the storm will cause windy conditions this afternoon and early this evening with west winds gusting to near 40 mph. in addition a few showers and thunderstorms will occur through this evening with some storms producing strong gusty winds and blowing dust.
tonight a few rain showers are expected across the lowlands with rain changing to snow over the higher mountains. two to five inches of snow will fall over the sacramento mountains tonight with up to 2 inches of snow possible over the gilas above 7000 feet.
much cooler air will flow into the region behind the cold front and high temperatures saturday will be around 15 to 20 degrees cooler than today.
for saturday night...with clearing skies and light winds unseasonably cold temperatures will occur. thus temperatures will fall below freezing across most of the lowlands by sunrise sunday with overnight lows ranging from 25 to 30 degrees most locations.
