...increased fire hazard across the midlands today and this labor day weekend...
the south carolina forestry commission is urging those who may do outdoor burning to be aware of favorable conditions for the possibilities of wildfires this weekend. although light winds generally less than 5 mph are expected...low humidities and dry ground fuels will increase the chances of local burning getting out of control. in addition...many burning activities like bonfires...camp fires and cooking fires may add dangerous burning debris that may ignite adjacent materials.
remember think before you burn. those wishing to conduct outdoor debris burning are asked to postpone these activities if possible. residents are reminded that state law requires them to notify the south carolina forestry commission prior to burning and take proper precautions for containing the fire. to report a wildfire... call 911 or 1-800-777-fire (3473).
