...winter storm warning in effect until 7 pm cdt saturday...
the national weather service in lubbock has issued a winter storm warning for a combination of heavy snow and blowing snow...for tonight and saturday. this replaces the winter weather advisory previously in effect.
* timing: snowfall will increase close to midnight and become heavy at times...before tapering off on later on saturday. the precipitation could briefly begin as rain or sleet before switching to all snow. strong north winds will persist through the day saturday causing areas of blowing and drifting snow.
* main impact: snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected with locally higher amounts within any snow band that develop.
* other impacts: sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph will develop tonight and persist through the day saturday. the strong winds will create areas of blowing and drifting snow and reduce visibilities...making travel hazardous. additionally...the much colder temperatures and strong winds will create wind chills in the teens.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow are expected. strong winds will also create areas of blowing and drifting snow. this will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
