...enhanced wildfire threat this afternoon...
westerly winds will increase early this afternoon to 15 to 20 mph with frequent gusts from 25 to 30 mph. fuel moisture remains low due to severe drought over portions of western maryland...the potomac highlands...the north central piedmont of virginia...and the shenandoah valley. relative humidities will decrease to 30 to 35 percent in the mid atlantic region during the afternoon hours. the combination of low fuel moisture...gusty winds...and relatively low relative humidities will pose an enhanced threat for wildfires this afternoon. winds are forecast to decrease rapidly at sunset this evening.
